Time for Nepal King to back off and bring democracy back – power of Internet gains strength
Sudhir Chadda
Mar. 2, 2005

Common people in Nepal are outraged. They do not support King’s crude method of cracking democracy. People reached out from Katmandu in support of making the King back down.

According to sources, the Nepal Army is also rethinking the process of supporting the King. While the monarchy is well regarded by the Army, the negative reactions from all other countries in the world worry them. India, US, UK, France all have urged the King to back down, stop merciless heavy handedness in suppressing people’s wish and bring Nepal back in the mainstream radar of the world.

Young people from Nepal have reached out to the whole world through the Internet. The momentum has built sufficiently for the King to reconsider his actions.

Based on the feedback I have received from Nepal via Internet, if I was the King, I would bring democracy back immediately. Nepalese mainstream population is not Maoist but his action may have made Maoists more popular. He needs to back off and bring democracy back immediately.

Thousands of people from various parts of Nepal have reached out to the world via the Internet to save their country from the King and the Maoists.

While the whole world is moving towards democracy – even in Middle East, there cannot be any valid reason for the King to demolish democracy.

If he really wanted to make a point against the Prime Minister elect under the constitutional monarchy, then, he has made his point. Now it is the time for him to relive his country, his people and his Army from fighting the Maoists alone.

Kings appropriate action will save the monarchy and the country from unnecessary upheaval. The Army of Nepal needs Indian support to fight the Maoists. It may be the right thing for the King to do by bringing the sacked Ministers and Government officials back and deliver the power to them.
