The modern India with American nuclear agreement and prodigious fame in service outsourcing - a legacy of good and bad
The modern India is an example of extreme good and bad. This is a country where insolent Indian oligarchs and the communists share common goals. The common people of India stare at these insolent entities with little hope. But at the same time the veracity of India’s success is clearly visible when economic numbers are revealed. India is successful economically. The Foreign Direct Deposits are going up. The foreign exchange reserves are at record level. For centuries mother India has not seen the great prosperity as it is today. The assiduous middle class of India has to be praised. They have tried hard and they have made India what she is today.
The succinct fact is that India has achieved a lot. But at the same time, certain sectors of India deserve severe chastisement. While the rich have become richer, superfluous wealth has found its way in buying European and American companies at a premium price, the common people in the countryside have cherished little of the prosperity of modern India.
The politicians in India use the malleable minds of simple folks in the countryside to secure their votes during the elections. They exacerbate the political system by creating quotas for castes, religions, and tribes. The irony is that these politicians eventually work for the Indian oligarchs, jeopardizing the interest of common people. When these politicians are questioned, they mollify the common people by creating more quotas and serving some of their special interests. If you try to censure these politicians, you will realize they do not care. Some of them will even try to go after you for your censure.
On the positive side, India has achieved a lot. The same inscrutable India in the eyes of westerners for centuries filled with snakes and tigers now leads the world in software technologies and many other technical fields. Bangalore is now the new silicon valley of the East. Expatriate Indians are achieving glory and fame. The cities are booming with prosperity.
India is now a glutton in energy consumption. The appetite for imported crude oil and natural gas is increasing every day. The price rise in energy does not stop India today. They see prosperity in inflation. The wages are up. The prices are up. More people are employed than ever before.
Indian women have achieved the most. Ambidextrous women of India have maintained their family values and at the same time while having made a marvelous mark in the professional world.
India is now equipped with the 123 nuclear agreement with America. What a change in thirty years! I still remember how Americans felt about Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and India back in those days. In 1984, however, Americans eulogized her after her death in the hands of her bodyguards. The cold war is over. India today is the one the main partners of America in the fight against terror.
