Compassion and love is the basis of Hinduism – never try to convert others into Hinduism – just create some great examples
Hinduism is not an organized religion. Hindus are not required to contribute a specific amount of their salary to their priests. Hindus do not have to visit their temple every week or every month. It is all done voluntarily.
Hinduism is way of life. It is a philosophy of life that is based on Vedic traditions. Compassion and love are the basis of Hinduism. That is the reason why Muslims conquered India, slaved it like anything, but were unable to convert any significant numbers of Hindus to Islam. The freedom to worship saved Hinduism. During Mughal times, many low caste Hindus were tapped in with money and higher positions to covert into Islam. They did and found rigidity in religion and then converted back to Hinduism.
Only one dark corner of Hinduism has haunted Hindus. That is the caste system. It is nonsense. Every society is based on classification labor. But that cannot go from generation to generation. If caste system was not there, very few Muslims will be in South Asia today.
When British conquered India, they tried the same trick the Mughals employed. The Christians are more sophisticated. They tapped the lower caste Hindus and converted them. Again Hinduism was tough to crack. Very few converted to Christianity.
The terror in the world is tearing it apart. Look what is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is the fight between Christians and the Muslims. Both sides have lost sight to compassion and love. The only way to win the war on terror is compassion, forgivingness and love for each other. After all we are all human beings, some white, some not so white.
It is time for India, and especially Hindus, to take the lead for peace. Hindus have created the examples of love and compassion. They are attracted to Hinduism not because some one persuades them to convert.
As I said, Hinduism is a philosophy of life. You can become a Hindu without converting to Hinduism. If you follow the life of compassion, love, respect for others and their religions, respect you family and stay away from sex before marriage and extramarital affairs, believe in having only one spouse, love animals, and above all practice forgivingness above revenge, you are a Hindu.
