Pakistan now needs support of India and US to fight the root of terror apparatus in northwestern Pakistan
Sudhir Chadda
Jul. 14, 2007

The situation in Pakistan is getting worse. The call for jihad against Pakistani Army by the extremists in the northwestern Pakistan is a wake up call for India and United States.

“With help from local tribal elders, we are trying to ensure that militants lay down their arms, and stop issuing calls for jihad against the government,” said a senior military official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

As the troop movement proceeded in at least five areas of the North West Frontier Province on Saturday, a suicide bomber struck in another border region, his explosives-laden vehicle killing at least eight soldiers in a military convoy, army spokesman Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad said.

Local security officials said as many as 12 soldiers died and another 20 were wounded in the attack.

If Pakistan goes into the hands of the extremists India will have a nightmare. The Americans need to resist that too because 90% of the recent Islamic terrorism has roots in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Bush administration has said its opinion on Pakistan's importance in the war on terror has remained unchanged after the Lal Masjid operation, and reiterated that President Pervez Musharraf was a "valued partner and ally."

"I don''t think our views on Pakistan are any different today than they were yesterday or last week," State Department Deputy Spokesman Tom Casey told reporters at a briefing.
