The religious right need to learn tolerance for other religions in America if they truly believe in God – Hindu chaplain’s prayer disrupted by religious right activists

Jul. 13, 2007

I wonder what the Hindus do when Christians pray in Indian Parliament. It is a shame to disrupt someone during his prayer to God. It does not matter what religion you belong to. If you have faith in God, you will respect someone’s right to pray. Great King Ashoka of India said something that should be taught in American schools – the best way to respect your God is to respect someone else’s God.

According to media reports, protestors disrupted a prayer by a Hindu chaplain on Thursday at the opening of a US Senate hearing, calling it an abomination and shouting slogans about Jesus Christ.

It was the first time the daily prayer that opens Senate proceedings was said by a Hindu chaplain.

Capitol police said two women and one man were arrested and charged with causing a disruption in the public gallery of the Senate. The three started shouting when guest Chaplain Rajan Zed, a Hindu from Nevada, began his prayer.

They shouted "No Lord but Jesus Christ" and "There's only one true God," and used the term "abomination."
