Concern about stagflation and rate hikes creating serious hangover in the world stock markets
Peter Oberois
Jul. 6, 2007
Asia is growing. The American and European economies are stalling. Japans recovery is slow. The stock markets are advancing with the hope that eventually the economies will catch up and the inflation will be under control.
However, the smell of stagflation is plenty all around the world. Even the rural countryside of China and India are stagnating while real inflation runs in the double digits. In America, the asset inflation is spreading into commodity and wage inflation for low wage earners.
The Asian stock markets are retreating after seven days of consecutive gains from the hangover from inflation jitters worldwide and resulting rise in interest rate.
China will raise the rates much more. India is also raising the rates. The Bank of Japan may also raise the rates next month.
The stock markets can actually fall if the perception for higher inflation persists.
