Bill Frist may be awarded the next World Bank President’s job – a doctor in development bank top position?
Sonia Joshi
May 24, 2007

It is unfortunate that America has lined up a series of potential nominees for world’s largest bank ignoring the persuasion of the developing world to have a merit based transparent process.

The White House is drawing up a list of potential nominees to lead the World Bank, and former Senator Bill Frist is getting especially close scrutiny for the job. The World Bank is again about to be thrown into controversy if a physician is nominated in a pure financial position.  It seems the nominees are being selected based on who really serves a carrot for their great work as Republican politician.

Transparency is the selection process that is required.  Merit should the sole determining criteria.  America selects the World Bank President.  Europeans select the International Monetary Fund head.  If transparency and merit based selection process is overlooked, the World Bank will become a real matter of laughing stalk.
