World Bank after Iraq war and Paul Wolfowitz – can colonialism end?
Balaji Reddy
May 18, 2007

What happened in Iraq is a shame. What the chief architect of the Iraq war did in the World Bank is a bigger shame. But the matter is more serious than the damaged geopolitics of the Middle East and scandal in the world’s largest development bank.

The issue is colonialism. We thought colonialism and racism were in decline after the South Africans finally got rid of the apartheid regime. But the Americans said no. It is still alive and has room to expand. The largest and richest democracy decided to change regime in Iraq, lying to the whole world. It also appointed the chief architect of the Iraq war, Paul Wolfowitz as the President of the World Bank. Mr. Wolfowitz took control of the World Bank after wrecking hell in Iraq. He wrecked World Bank too. He brought his friends into World Bank. They replaced all senior decision-making positions.

Americans used the World Bank as part of its foreign policy. World Bank declined into the dark ages. Everything the World Bank did in the last three years is centered on one theme – arrogance, corruption, unethical behavior, and outright lies.

Europeans select the chief of the International Monetary Fund based on whom they want. Americans select the President of the World Bank based who they choose also. There is no democratic process there. The purpose of IMF, or World Bank, is not to influence geopolitics but to help development in needed areas of the world.

Colonialism is the root cause of all problems in Middle East. It is the only reason America attacked Iraq and hijacked World Bank. It is a shame that a democracy has to behave like that in the twenty-first century.

Now, we hear Mr. Tony Blair will be the new President of the World Bank. What can possibly be more shameful? The same man who sided with lies from America on Iraq is now going to become the President of the World Bank. Mr. Blair, why don’t you find a real job like all the hard working people in your own country? Why politicize the World Bank more for the benefit of colonialism?
