Inefficiency and lack of ethics in workplace among top management are the root causes for illegal immigration, H1B and outsourcing
Harish Baliga
May 13, 2007

America is world’s most preferred country. Even today, if you compare America with the rest of the world, no one can come close. It is the citadel of freedom that attracts all from every corner of the world. But there are some problems. America is being exploited by two groups of people. First, the inefficient corrupt top management of American corporations has failed to engage in ethical behavior in workplace. American Universities are no exception either. They need ‘slaves’ who will follow orders without question. They do not care how many people get unemployed in America as long as Chinese, Indian, and other ‘modern day slaves’ in the form of H1Bs, outsourcing, and illegal immigration keep fueling the earning per shares. These corporate managers in America do not own any major stocks of the corporation they control. If the corporation goes to hell, they will not be affected. Look at Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of HP. She made the decision to buy the Compaq Computers just to feel bigger that Michael Dell. Nothing really happened to her as HP lost big because of the merger and acquisition. She never had to pay any penalty for her mistakes. The saga goes on and on.

The second group of people that is exploiting America are the communists and socialists in China, India, and other countries. They are getting their share in the form of bribes from the outsourcing fiasco. A typical politician in India and a communist leader in China receive substantial part of the money that flows into India and China in the form of outsourcing revenue. The communists in West Bengal that follow Chinese model of governance recently killed poor people and snatched their land for earning revenues from Indian oligarchs who are fueled by American outsourcing dollars. Sadly, the oligarch, Tata of India was given heroes welcome and allowed to fly F18 by Boeing in an Indian Aerospace show. It is a shame.

The problem is that these top managers of American corporations who are ‘enjoying’ slave labor in the form of H1B, outsourcing, and illegal immigration have forgotten something (hopefully) they learnt in their MBA program. It is called social responsibilities of the businesses and ethics.

Wall Street is focused on EPS (Earnings per Share) and sequential growth in EPS. These corporate ‘servants’ are focused on their own well being, higher remuneration, bonuses, and stock options. The gap between hardworking average America and the CEO salaries are ridiculously high. In a free society, performance must be rewarded. What is getting rewarded is not performance but local power, lack of social responsibilities and unethical behavior.

If corporate management in America were efficient and ethical, and if professors in American Universities would do their work diligently, there will be no need of influx of illegal immigration, H1Bs, outsourcing, and foreign students.

The problem lies with pension funds in America too. These large pension funds own substantial part of certain corporation. They are not enforcing the social responsibilities issues.
