China lashes out at US-Japan defense collaboration surrounding the region including Taiwan – looks towards Russia for strategic counter measure
China expressed concern about the proposed American-Japanese defense collaboration.
According to published media reports, China said that recent talks between the United States and Japan are a "serious concern" to Beijing's sovereignty and national security. The Chinese government opposes U.S. and Japanese agreements regarding military cooperation and the Taiwan issue as a strategic objective.
China for long has feared joint US-Japan military adventure against China. According to the international think tanks, China now is actively looking towards Russia to create a strategic deterrent against US-Japan moves. China may also look towards India but they are not sure what kind of response they would receive from India on this.
While China is trying work out the North Korea issue to diffuse tension in the area, it is adamant about its position on Taiwan and to some extent Tibet. Japan and America need a military deterrence not only against North Korea but also China.
The United States and Japan share a common interest in easing tensions in the Taiwan Strait, according to a joint statement issued Feb. 19 following a meeting in Washington of the U.S.-Japan Security Consultative Committee. The statement was released amid a Chinese military build-up and threat to invade Taiwan should the island declare its independence.
