Americans act on whims without caring for cultural differences - Richard Gere apology for kissing Shilpa in public is an example for American businesses investing in India and China
What happened to Richard Gere will happen to American businesses investing and trying to do business in India and China. Americans act on whims without caring for cultural differences. Whether it is Iraq, China, or India, the fact remains the same. The same ignorance that made US car manufacturers make cars for Japanese market with steering wheel on the left side (in Asia and Europe it is in right side!) is manifested in Iraq fiasco and also in investing in India and China.
The root cause of this American problem is lack of proper education in the elementary and high school. Americans do not learn world cultures. World Geography and history are just not in the curriculum. You cannot hover around in world trying to make money and create ‘impressions’ if you do not know or care to know the cultural differences.
Kissing Shilpa on the cheek was not something Indians should have cared for. But if Richard Gere and other Americans were taught in elementary and high school about other cultures and customs, he would have never gotten himself into such a ridiculous controversy.
Similarly, American businesses investing and trying to make up in Asia for stagflation in America, do not understand Indian and Chinese cultures. India and China know very well they are not returning a penny of what they are bringing in back to the Americans. The expatriate American citizens of Indian and Chinese origin who invested in India and China know very well – it is a one-way door. You can take dollar over there. Nothing can ever come out from there. China and India have created an interesting system of taxing the Western world through luring incoming Foreign Direct Deposits to fund their socialistic inefficiencies. Ignorant Americans are finding temporary heaven in those traps.
