Delhi High Courts cites Congress Government in intentional negligence in not deporting illegal Bangladeshis from India
Congress may be paying games with the Muslim minority card by not deporting illegal Bangladeshi nationals from India. Some in BJP strongly feel that Congress hopes to issue voter registration cards to these millions of illegal Bangladeshis and hope to win the next election with their help.
Perturbed over "failure" of the law-enforcing machinery to act against illegal Bangladeshi migrants, the Delhi High Court has directed the Union Home Ministry and police to identify at least 3000 such foreign nationals every month in the capital and get them deported.
"If the proposed target is not achieved in the given time frame, the Commissioner of Police, secretary (Home) Central government and secretary (Home) Delhi government shall remain present in the court," a bench of Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice S K Kaul said posting the matter for March 16.
Expressing anguish over the "callous" approach of the government machinery for their failure to detect the number of illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the capital despite several orders passed in the last four years, the court said the action taken by the authorities were far from satisfactory.
"There is no satisfactory action either by the Centre or the police department despite assurances being made to deport 3000 illegal Bangladeshi migrants every month," the court said adding that "by reporting few detections every month, the purpose will not be served".
The court was acting on a public interest litigation filed by advocate Chetan Dutt seeking deportation of illegal Bangladeshi migrants. The PIL filed in the year 2001 had contended that illegal stay of Bangladeshis was not only causing serious law and order problem in the National capital and bordering districts, but has created extra burden on the civic facilities and rightful citizens were deprived of the facilities.
