Nepal King may have saved the democracy from Maoists which democracy could not handle
The world is totally upset with Nepalese King Gyanendra on his diluting democracy in Nepal. Indian Government and many other Governments have called their ambassador back to their respective countries to show the King that the world community does not approve of his actions.
The king of Nepal may have saved his country from being hijacked by the Maoists rebels whom the democratically elected leaders could not control.
According to some media reports, Nepalese King Gyanendra said at a Democracy Day rally Feb. 18 that he seized power to protect the country from threats of instability and to protect democracy from the Maoist rebels and corrupt politicians. At the same time, phone lines were disconnected to thwart protests against him.
At least 43 Maoist rebels have been killed since Feb. 16 in clashes occurring in various parts of Nepal, including the Kapilvastu, Rolpa, Baitadi and Khirpur districts, the Nepalese army reported Feb. 18.
If the report is true, Nepal for the first time may have turned the corner against the Maoists. It may be time for India and the rest of the world to give Nepal and her King a chance.
