Speedier than wind – India ready to whisper to the world
Media Report
Feb. 18, 2005

Team JORDAN''S Narain Karthikeyan has no pretensions about finishing on the podium when the Melbourne Grand Prix takes place on March 6. After logging another 76 laps -- he did 80 on Tuesday -- in his Toyota-powered car on the second day of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on Wednesday, the Indian speed king said he was happy with the progress.

Unlike Tuesday, both Narain and teammate Tiago Monteiro of Portugal were in the EJ 15 cars. And what is now clear is that in terms of speed and timings, Narain has been much faster than his teammate who had finished third in the World Series last year.

"I am happy with the way the testing has gone. I am getting a better feel of the car which was identical to the one Monteiro was in. I reiterate, preparations have begun late, but I am making the best use of all the miles being logged. It has been very fruitful and none should expect me to give the seasoned drivers a run. In the first few races of the season our real challenge will be with Minardi," said Narain.

The weather in Barcelona was cold but for Narain it was nothing new. "Physically, I am feeling fine and getting used to the rigours of F-1," added Narain, who is sponsored by Tatas. The EJ15 is essentially a modified EJ14 chassis brought into line with the 2005 aerodynamic regulations and fitted with the 2005 specification Toyota V10. "It was a good day and among other things we spent time updating Tiago's car to EJ15 specification," explained Sporting Director Trevor Carlin. "Narain improved his time, he did a 1:19.179 and was working through some more of tyre e test programme.
