As predicted France and EU keep distance from Putin’s support to Syria and Iran - Syria, North Korea and Iran form defense alliance as Geopolitical chessboard heats up
As America provided hints towards its utter dissatisfaction with Syria and Syrian presence as well as influences in Lebanon and intrusions in Iraq, Syria and Iran has formed a defense pact. Iranian President Mohammad Khatami has told a visiting North Korean envoy that Tehran supports North Korea's struggle "to guarantee peace and security of the country" and will work to deepen the friendship between Tehran and Pyongyang.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is busy in trying to save Syria and Iran from American and Israeli actions. Russia did not get support in this effort from EU and France. According international think tank Stratfor, the assassination of al-Hariri, the top French ally in Lebanon who also was said to be close to French President Jacques Chirac, disturbed the French government and might have changed Paris'' intentions to support Russia's diplomatic defense of Syria. France is working closely with the United States to craft a new UNSC resolution calling for the Lebanese government to fully investigate the blast that killed al-Hariri. Though this resolution will not call for measures against Syria or name it as a perpetrator or suspect in the assassination, Chirac is unlikely to continue supporting Russia's proposal to allow Syria to delay its troop withdrawal. Since al-Hariri's death, Chirac has become reluctant to continue talking with the Russians about blocking U.S. demands on the United Nations to punish Syria, French Foreign Ministry sources say.
Putin now looks towards China and BRICS alliance of nation to stand up and provide the deterrence. While China is busy diffusing the North Korean situation, Russia is trying to gain momentum in world support for Iran and Korea.
International think tanks believe that there is no immediate threat from America or Israel for Iran or Syria. But on the long run, US will expect Syrian Baathists and Iranians to change their behavior patterns. China may not be willing to come forward and save Syria directly. There are many Russian engineers in Iran building a nuclear reactor.
The geopolitical chessboard is heating up again. While Iran, Syria and North Korea has joined hands to defend against America and Israel, no one in the world may be willing to save them directly – even the Russians.
