Paula Anderson
Apr. 4, 2007

Major gas-producing nations will meet next week to discuss greater collaboration in a bid to gain more control over markets and increase political clout. Some international think tanks believe that is start of the end of worldwide boom of growth and prosperity.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum, an assembly of 14 of the world's largest gas producers, will meet Monday and Tuesday in the Qatar capital of Doha. Major members such as Iran are openly talking of someday creating a version of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries for gas. The gas cartel has the full blessing of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
