Time to invest in real estate or stay away from it?
Karen Zuba
Mar. 26, 2007

The new home sales figure shows deepening crisis with largest number of unsold homes in the last sixteen years and rapidly falling prices with lower confidence in the real estate market.
But from the contrarian point of view that may be the ideal time to buy the real estate. The real estate price can actually go up for some time. The market always fools people. The sentiment is decidedly negative. The brokers cannot find sales person. People are just not interested in residential real estate anymore. Interestingly, the commercials however are long massive number of lumber future contracts. That raises the question if the gloom and doom in real estate is real.
Some analysts believe, the bubble has definitely collapsed. But the inherent demand for homes and shortage in supply will create a soft landing from here. After some considerable base building, the real estate market will go up again.
That is exactly what happened in Britain. The British real estate market topped out long before the US market. Now the residential real estate is booming again.
