India will have a Formula One Grand Prix within three years, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone told the BBC on Friday.
India would "definitely" have a race, "it's just a case of where," Ecclestone said. He said it would "probably end up" in Bombay, although Calcutta and Hyderabad have been mentioned previously.
An Indian will compete in Formula One for the first time this year after Narain Karthikeyan joined the Jordan team.
Karthikeyan was given the drive because he had substantial sponsorship from the Tata Group, one of India's largest conglomerates, and state-run Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. Jordan owner Alex Shnaider, a Canadian steel billionaire, also hoped an Indian driver would help him gain new business.
This season opens on March 6 in Melbourne, Australia.
