Americans let Ratan Tata fly the F16 but India inks ink $1.6 billion Sukhoi deal with Russia
Special Correspondent

Ratan Tata flew F16. India gave a $1.6 Billion deal to Sukhoi. Indications are there that Americans will get little if any of the defense money from India and most the nuclear reactors will come from Russia.
The India-Russia defense cooperation will just side step American offers.
It is a classic failure of American marketing techniques that has now been proved not only old but also ineffective.
Just looking at Indian oligarchs will not make the deal close. Russians on the other hand are very clever. They used there past performance as a guide to future developments. They are snatching order after order from India.
Indian politicians trust the Russians. Russians were there when India needed help especially against America (1965, 1971...). America is painted in south Asia as an unreliable supplier that likes politics with business all the time.
The government has invoked the fast-track procedure to buy the Su-30s.
The IAF will also be inducting, in the short-term, 80 medium-lift Helicopters, 12 VIP choppers, advanced light helicopters, 10 Cheetahs and Israeli Phalcon AWACS (airborne warning and control systems).
Then there are the 126 multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) that the air force seeks to acquire and the request for proposal (RFP) for which is likely to be released anytime now.
India will however acquire some very high tech equipment from America.
