BJP calls for investigation on Lalu and his party - BJP in Bihar on Kidnappings
Staff Reporter
Feb. 6, 2005

The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have demanded a high-level probe into a series of kidnappings in Bihar. Both parties have alleged that the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was linked to the kidnappings as well as the dramatic release of one of the boys a day before the first phase of assembly elections Feb 3.

The situation in Bihar was so bad that young people were disappearing in daylight.

At least four students disappeared from their homes across Bihar, and the most sensational case was that of Kislay Kaushal of Patna's Delhi Public School whose abduction caused a furore. Kidnappings were also reported from Bhagalpur, Biharsharif and Darbhanga districts. Paswan demanded Saturday a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the kidnappings.

"I dare the state government to hand over the probe into the kidnappings to the CBI," Paswan said. The BJP also voiced its concern over the kidnapping saga. "It is amazing and unbelievable that kidnapped school students were released one after another but no arrest of kidnappers has been made," said BJP leader Arun Jaitley.

Police rescued two schoolboys, Kislay Kaushal and Deepak Kumar. Another student escaped from the clutches of his abductors while the kidnappers released a fourth one.
