Lack of ‘sexual characteristics’ of a woman-India's Santhi to be stripped of Asiad Silver
Media Release
Dec. 17, 2006

Santhi Soundarajan who made India proud by winning the silver medal in the women's 800m event at the Asian Games in Doha, is likely to be stripped of her medal after it was found that she did not have the necessary ‘sexual characteristics’ of a woman.
TV reports have also mentioned that the problem was detected soon after she was crowned with the medal. Moreover reports say that the Indian sports official were also aware of this situation.
Santhi won her silver medal by leaving behind a close contender Mariam Yusuf Jamal of Bahrain.
Reports also said that unlike the doping tests that are usually carried out randomly to detect the misuse of performance enhancing drugs, the gender test is only taken after the protests against any particular athlete comes into notice.
