Zakir Hussain claims it was by chance, spontaneous and so on. Esha shies away from commenting. But the real story is somewhat different.

Zakir and Esha are in great terms. But Zakir that day was making jokes about Esha as the real ghost. When Ram Gopal Varma heard about the same, he plaqnned something to take control of the situation. He wanted to make sure Zakir gets it and Esha is not offended.

Ranu was concerned about making ‘Darlin’ a real success. Esha Deol was flitting in and out of the scene because she is playing a ghost in the film. Suddenly, Ramu shouted 'slap him'' and Esha gave me a tight slap across my face. This was not exactly part of the script, so nobody was prepared.
