China’s underemployment of its professionals at its worst – the economic disparity in China

Nov. 18, 2006

1.24 million Chinese college students will graduate this year in China but are not sure of finding jobs suiting their qualification. A handful 100 people in the country control the Chinese economy. The Military and the Chinese communist party enjoy the glory and the rich of outsourcing money from the Western companies. The rest of the country suffers from underemployment and economic disparity.
Tian Chengping, head of the ministry of labour and social security, said that only 22 percent of China's new jobs last year were meant for college students.
The official unemployment rate standing at 4.1 percent in the first nine months. But when you take into account the underemployment factor, the rate is more than 30%. The demand for college graduates was down by 22 percent in 24 provinces and 15 major cities from last year.
The underemployment rate in America is also staggering. But because America is a free country, underemployment people normally quit their low paying exploiting employers and start their own business. That option is not available in China. It takes months if not years to get going as an entrepreneur. The Government in China dictates what a professional can or cannot do. The freedom is missing at the grass root level.
