Housing starts will surprise and manifest strength in US economy
Kirsten Riegel
Oct. 18, 2006

The market is expecting a lower housing starts number today to be announced at 8.30 AM. The expectation is for hosing starts is 1650K from 1665 K in the prior month. The 0.1% drop will provide some relief to the bond market. However, analytics are showing that the hosing starts number can be surprisingly stronger than market expectation.

The gloom and doom in real estate market is overdone. US adds a person in the population every 11 seconds. By 2043 the population will reach 400 million. Every 31 seconds a new immigrant lands in US. These immigrants look for homes in a few years.

Demand for residential units is a function of demographic growth. The prices are a function of demand and partly on supply. The surprising strength in US economy is also forecast by the stock market. While the bond market can face trouble, it can definitely help dollar.
