Sep. 23, 2006

Iraq will not agree to a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S.-led coalition forces until Iraqi police can independently handle security issues, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said during his address to the U.N. General Assembly on Sept. 22.
Though he warned the Iraqi people's patience with violence was wearing out, Talabani praised U.S. President George W. Bush for his leadership in the "campaign to liberate Iraq from tyranny."
