The Military rulers led by the King in Thailand have shown little respect for people let alone the media. Thailand's military leaders warned foreign media of severe prosecution if Thai Monarchy is criticised.
It is a sad day for Democracy in the region. It is a sad day for the Thai people in Thailand and abroad. There are some benefits of the coup but media censorship and threatening media like that shows the real internals of Thai security infrastructure.
According to media reports, Thailand's military leaders warned foreign media agencies Sept. 23 that the media will be prosecuted for any reports that insult the monarchy. Insulting the Thai king is a criminal offense and carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison. Military spokesman Maj. Gen. Thaweep Netniyan did not say what kind of retaliation could be expected, or which organizations were offensive.
