Will Egypt unleash its secret nuclar program from covert to overt?
Tania Rao
Sep. 21, 2006

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak called Sept. 21 for a national dialogue on using nuclear power as a source of energy.

Egypt has a small experimental reactor and is also a member of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. The country is mostly dependent on hydrocarbons for its electricity production.

But some international think tanks belive Egypt has acquired nuclear technology for peaceful and military purposes and this may be a move to bring it to fisst floor from the basement.

After US-India nuke agreement, Egypt may be eying a similar one with the international communities. Howevcer, here is the problem. Egypt is a member of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. India is not. What applies for India may not hold true for Egypt.
