Eight German warships are headed for lebabnon to become second largest in the U.N. force - will german forces fight the Israeli Defense Force in a stand off in future?

Eight German warships are headed Sept.21 to the eastern Mediterranean where they will join the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. The German contingent will be the second largest in the U.N. force. Unlike other European nations involved in the mission, Germany has not sent ground troops partly because of its reluctance to be drawn into fighting against Israeli soldiers.

Some international think tanks believe that is a real posswibilty. It will look so odd that in that scenario germany will pull out fast from the UN contingent.

Hizbullah may also try to use the UN troops to irridate IDF - the Israeli defense Force.

The bigger problems are Hizb component in the Lebanese Army with whom German forces will interact quite often.

Germany was skeptical of this scenario for a long time. Germany did not sent ground troops partly because of its reluctance to be drawn into fighting against Israeli soldiers.
