Finally gas prices have hit India and business sentiment in the main street. 2200 gas (petrol) stations in India close down calling it a strike against State of Maharashtra's refusal to lower sales tax on Petroleum products.
Mumbai is worst hit as people are stranded with cars that has no gas.
Due to easy credit availability, common people in Pune, Mumbai and other parts of the State has bought enormous amounts of cars and have moved further away from cities to capture lower real estate prices and better country side living - the American style. But the same is biting them back as gas stations close down. Lack of public tranportation makes these people stranded without basic amenities of life.
According to media reports, Protesting against the State Govt's refusal to lower sales tax, around 2,200 petrol pumps and CNG pumps across Maharashtra went on an indefinite strike. However, 14 pumps owned and operated by IOC, HP and BP would remain open.
