Suicide attack near US embassy in Kabul - how did Taliban breach the security network
Anil Rane
Sep. 8, 2006
It was the most horrific suicide bombing since the fall of the Taliban five years. It killed at least 16 people on Friday, up to seven of them foreigners, near the U.S. embassy just before noon.
The rescue teams used water hoses to put massive fires out and the place was filled with body parts. The US embassy is heavily fortifoed and the biggest question is how did the Taliban come come so close to it?
Was there a breach in security? Are there Taliban moles in the Afghan security apparatus?
U.S. and Afghan forces and private U.S. contractors are responsible for the security of embassy and its surrounding approach to the complex. They quickly sealed off the place for further investigation. But still the question is - how did Taliban come so close?
