Media Release
Jul. 8, 2006

Chhattisgarh police on Saturday said they have recovered a multi-purpose sophisticated telescope from Dornapal jungle of Dantewada district after a shootout with naxalites.

The telescope is fitted with a compass to help the naxalites find their own position as was done in Army and it had been fitted with mercury to be used as leveler, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) Giridhari Nayak said.

The telescope was recovered from Toyapad jungle of Dornapal police station area, about 515 km from the state capital, Nayak said.

Through the telescope, the rebels could see security forces from a distance of at least two km in Bastar region which was sufficient to plant a land mine quickly, he said.
