Sensex finally settled with a gain of 218 points at 10,040; Dr.Reddy's zooms 7%

The Sensex opened a tad (six points) higher at 9829, but soon slipped to a low of 9753. Fresh buying at lower levels saw the index rebound into positive zone soon after.
Heavy buying in select heavyweights towards the close saw the index soar to a high of 10,054 - up 301 points from the day's low. The index finally settled with a gain of 218 points at 10,040.
While the Small-cap index soared over 4% to 5324, the Mid-cap index surged 2.7% to 4324.
The Teck index rallied nearly 3% to 2365. The FMCG and Metal indices surged over 2.5% each to 1841 and 7794, respectively.
