Seeds of nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan
Sudhir Chadda, Special Political Correspondent Most unexpected things happen suddenly. India’s new Government has brought in old “Nehru” philosophy back into mainstream India. While it worked well in sixities, seventies and even in eighties, India today is a different nation. India competes with the West and China. India is one of the largest and fastest growing economy. Given this backdrop, BJP was moving towards managing Pakistan in a “diplomatic” way. The new Government has no new idea on Kashmir. They have reached an immediate stalemate with Pakistan on this issue just like they did years back. Today South Asia is a nuclear power. Irresponsible behavior on the part of Pakistan and India can lead South Asia into the first all out nuclear war. The level of confidence between the Musharraf Government and Congress led UPA Government is very low. Pakistan 's President Pervez Musharraf last week rang up Atal Bihari Vajpayee and not the real rulers of India , Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh, when he feared the peace dialogue between the two countries might be jolted by precipitous statements from Natwar Singh on the issue of Kashmir and Indo-Pak relations.
