Nicaraguan Army may be selling Soviet-made SAM missiles to terrorists – Al-Queda, ALFA, Naxals and more!
Balaji Reddy, Special Correspondent
February 01, 2005

According to U.S. State Department and the Pentagon the corrupt military of Nicaragua may be selling SAM 7 Soviet-made SAM missiles to terrorists and drug traffickers. The U.S. government made its concerns public after a recent Nicaraguan police sting operation seized a SAM-7 missile and detained two individuals that thought they were selling the missile to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. The Nicaragua's army had close to 2100 SAM missiles and it destroyed close to 1000 of those.

Who are the most likely recipient of these missiles?

According to international think tanks, these missiles most likely can harm Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez, Mexican President Vicente Fox or U.S. commercial airliners flying to Central American countries. These missiles most like it will not get into the hands of the Al-Queda – but you never know.

The Nicaraguan Army has denied US allegation but not with validation and proof.

Most dangerous is the fact these potentially lethal mass destruction tools can get into the hands of the Al-Queda or Abu-Musawi Al Zarkawi in Iraq.

Such missile attacks against airliners are not unheard of -- in November 2002, militants fired two SA-7s at an Israeli commercial airliner in Kenya and missed. The tendency of the Islamic terrorists is increasingly tending towards using the shoulder held missiles against commercial jet liners.

These missiles can even come into the hands of ALFA, Naxals, Maoists or others all over the world.

A likely scenario is that these military junta may have sold these missiles to drug traffickers. The drug traffickers these days are being contacted by the Al-Queda for a possible clandestine entry to America or other countries. These drug traffickers in turn may sell these missiles to Al-Queda or similar terrorists organizations include anti-Russian Chechens.

Unless the Nicaraguan Army can account for all the missing SAMs, all of us in the world are unsafe!
